Nature’s green sanctuary

SALAZIE

Salazie, located in the northeastern part of Réunion, is the most accessible of the island’s three cirques and is renowned for its lush greenery and waterfalls. The cirque is dominated by the majestic Cascade Blanche, one of the tallest waterfalls in the world, and the smaller but equally picturesque Voile de la Mariée. Salazie’s fertile volcanic soil makes it one of the most verdant regions of the island, with terraced fields growing everything from sugarcane to vanilla.

The village of Hell-Bourg, a former spa town and one of the most beautiful villages in France, is located within the cirque. Its charming Creole architecture, along with its laid-back atmosphere, makes it a popular stop for visitors exploring the area. For hikers, Salazie offers a variety of trails, including routes to the neighboring Cirque de Mafate.
