Sand River Camp
Sand River Masai Mara is a sophisticated and elegant safari camp set along the banks of the Sand River within the iconic Masai Mara National Reserve. Offering a glimpse into the golden age of safari with its 1920s-style décor and rich history, the camp combines luxury with the excitement of a prime wildlife location. Situated in a secluded area of the Mara, close to the Tanzania border, Sand River provides an immersive safari experience away from the crowds, making it an ideal base for witnessing the Great Migration and exploring the famed landscapes of this remarkable reserve.
The Camp
Inspired by the glamour and romance of early 20th-century safaris, Sand River Masai Mara exudes a timeless elegance. The camp’s design captures the spirit of adventure with canvas tents featuring classic wooden furnishings, leather trunks, and vintage décor reminiscent of a bygone era. However, modern comforts ensure a luxurious stay, with all tents offering en-suite bathrooms, hot showers, and private verandas overlooking the river or surrounding savannah.
The camp is divided into two separate areas, Sand River and Little Sand River, creating an exclusive and intimate atmosphere. Each area is designed with an eye for detail, from the handwoven rugs to the chandeliers that adorn the dining and lounge areas.
Accommodation
Sand River Masai Mara features 16 luxury tented suites, including one family tent, all thoughtfully positioned to offer privacy and stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Each tent is beautifully appointed with a large king-size bed (or twin beds), spacious en-suite bathroom, and a private deck where guests can relax and observe the abundant wildlife that frequents the river.
The tents are tastefully decorated, combining safari chic with a nostalgic feel. Persian rugs, antique campaign furniture, and soft fabrics create a warm and inviting ambiance, while floor-to-ceiling windows provide a constant connection to the natural world outside.
Dining & Common Areas
Dining at Sand River Masai Mara is a gourmet experience, with the camp offering both indoor and alfresco dining options. The open-air dining tent overlooks the river, providing a picturesque setting for meals, while private dining under the stars can be arranged for those seeking a more intimate experience.
The camp’s lounge and bar areas are stylish and comfortable, offering a serene place to unwind after a day on safari. The décor echoes the camp’s 1920s inspiration, with leather armchairs, brass fittings, and plush cushions creating an inviting space to relax with a cocktail or book.
