Tour Durban

A place where east meets west, Durban offers the thrill of being a vibrant melting pot of culture, whilst also being a laidback beach city. The locals are friendly, the weather is balmy all year round and the ocean is warm – no wonder the locals are almost never inside.

Dig into South Africa’s liberation past on the Inanda Heritage Route, taking in the site where Nelson Mandela cast his historic vote in South Africa’s first democratic elections, not to mention the Phoenix Settlement, established in 1904 by none other than Mahatma Gandhi.

  • Swim, sunbathe and surf the Golden Mile, a long series of gorgeous beaches stretching north from the harbour mouth.
  • Get your heart racing at Moses Mabhida Stadium by taking the SkyCar to the top of the iconic arch for the best view in the city, or leap from the arch in a 220 metre arc on the world’s tallest swing.
  • Shop up a (local) storm at Victoria Street Market, a bazaar offering everything from Indian spices and incenses, to fresh fruits and vegetables, fabrics, ceramics, and arts and crafts.
  • Explore Africa’s oldest surviving botanical gardens, which cover 15 hectares and feature a herbarium, orchid house and what is arguably the rarest plant in the world, the Woods Cycad.
